Overview

This session will outline the major keys to being able to recruit foreign physicians to hard-to-fill medical placements, give both an update and practice pointers on the J-1 waiver program, and outline considerations to hiring a physician under H-1B status and permanent residence.

Robert D. Aronson is the Managing Partner of Aronson & Associates, a nationally prominent immigration law firm located in Minneapolis, MN. The major area of his practice deals with immigration matters for foreign physicians. Through this focus, he serves as immigration counsel to foreign-trained physicians and U.S. medical institutions nationwide. He has written over 60 articles on physician immigration issues, as published in journals of the legal and healthcare professions. He was appointed as the immigration legal consultant to the Commission on Graduate Medical Education, which serves as the advisor board to the Secretary of Health and Human Services on emerging healthcare issues. For the past 15 years, he has been selected as a primary presenter on physician immigration legal matters to the Annual Conference of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He holds his J.D. Cum Laude from Indiana University and was a Fulbright Scholar at the law schools of Harvard Law School and Moscow State (USSR) University.
